This is my first watercolor ever! So there is hope for everyone! LOL For a beginner, watercolor can be quite daunting. It can be confusing and difficult to master. Watercolor is like a moving target. You need to learn control. Once you have that process mastered, it will become much easier. In future posts I will review some fundamentals of watercolor. I hope this will be useful to you and create confidence in your skills.
When I started painting in watercolors I ran into continuous frustrations. I didn't know how to prevent these frustrations. I had to figure things out for myself because I am self-taught.
Watercolor is all about…..the water! No big surprise, right? The key is in controlling the water. For a start, watercolor paints are transparent. The colored pigments in paint get diluted in water, which makes them liquid enough to spread across the paper. As the paint dries, the water evaporates and the colored pigments fix to the surface of the paper. The ratio of pigment to water has a direct effect on the transparency of your watercolors. This is the beginning of working with watercolor. I fell in love with the process many years ago and I still enjoy it today.
